You Will Never Know
He broke your heart when
he said “I love her”
Your father left you and
your mother for a woman he met at a pub
Your mother is
depressed and alcoholic beyond belief
You buried your sorrows
in a fake smile
Your grades are no
better, slipping beyond your grasp, way beyond saving
Your “best friends”
talked behind your back, sending knives with sharp ends sticking out of your spine
You are popular, pretty, the whole student body worships you
But somehow, you feel you
are an outcast
Maybe even less than an
outcast
You are on the top yet, you don’t feel the happiness they associate you with
One day, you’ve had
enough, enough is enough
So you went ahead and
asked the help of a pothead who hangs out in the school’s dumpster
A small favor in exchange
for a few bucks
You asked for something
that will set things right
You believe this something
will make the pain go away
That this something
will finally give you the happiness you’ve always craved for
When he arrived with
the package you can’t wait to get this done and over with
But then you felt sad,
lonely even
Is this the only answer
to your problems?
You only wanted to be
happy but should there be a price to pay for that?
Just then, you noticed
a note inside along with what you ordered
Tears run down your
face while reading the words written in an almost illegible writing
You presume that
pothead, that pothead you’ve always ignored was the one behind the note
You can’t help but
smile and throw the package to the nearby bin
Others might be
wondering what was written on that yellow paper
It says:
“There are many things
left for you to discover
So many things better
than what scarred you
But once you take that
small, white pill in your hand…
You will never know
You will never know…”
